# FAQs on Step Counting

Below are some of the most **frequently asked questions** about steps and how they are counted.

1. ***Does Walken count steps when I run?***

**Yes**, steps obtained when running are accepted. Running is sort of walking, but at a faster pace, so this activity is an acceptable way to get steps in.

2. ***Can we walk or run on a treadmill?***

**Yes**, the steps walked or run on a **treadmill** are counted. We support physical activity and are looking to inspire people to move more. And walking or running on a treadmill is an excellent source of exercise preferred by many people when the *weather* won’t cooperate or for its being easier on *joints* and *heart*.

3. ***What if I just cheat that step counter?***

As we have already mentioned, it’s perfectly natural that there would be people willing to cheat a step counter to reach those steps faster and effortlessly. Undoubtedly, it’s easier to just sit on the couch or drive a car and pretend one is logging tons of steps. The **validation algorithms** recognise and cut out the steps resulting from cheating behaviors (like shaking one’s phone, attaching a watch to a dog, etc.). We’re advocating for a fair, competitive and physically beneficial game and are paying much attention to **prevent cheating** behaviors among the player.

4. **What happens with my steps beyond the 10k daily step cap?**

Players can convert only first *10000 steps into GEM daily,* maximising health benefits and contributing to the game economy sustainability. Further steps won't be counted, displayed in competitions or included in Rank calculation; also **they will not earn you GEM.**
